TWCA Students scoop most medals at Zone 3 Schools Individual Chess Championships 2020

A wonderful sight it was to have all the participants battling it out over the chessboard. Saturday 7 March 2020 was one of many successful chess tournaments for our students.

They 12 medals in total:

Worth mentioning is the special achievement of Lilian Jansen winning the combined u13,u15& u17 girls section, and Hannah Mouton winning the combined u7 & u9 girls section with a perfect score of 7/7.

Dante Beukes becomes an International Master!

The AYCC 2019 was an event that most of Namibia were looking forward to. Many youngsters had aspirations to become chess masters or end up on the podium. There was one young man who was poised to win gold and an International Master Title.

In round 6 he had probably his most difficult match, but he remained focused on the ultimate prize the tournament can offer and bounced back. Dante was awarded his gold medal, trophies and the International Master Title in a very rapturous, explosive,  ceremony. He was congratulated with thunderous applause by an elation filled crowd. Namibia has definitely competed in his section. To make it more rewarding he played in a section higher than his age group. Here is how it was described on the AYCC 2019 facebook page.

“It was surreal! Spontaneous, rapturous and sustained applause sent chills through the very crowd from which it erupted, unable to restrain themselves!

The celebration started well before and indeed continued all throughout the announcement of Namibia's own Dante Beukes' achievements at the 2019 AYCC.

Namibia might only have won one of the available 36 medals, but Dante ensured it was the most valuable one of all!
Eligible to play in Under 16, he played a level up, winning gold for a 1st place finish in the Under 18 Open section, and now the chess player formerly known as a Fide Master is officially Namibia's first-ever International Master!

What's more, with his ELO rating being high enough, he was awarded the Direct Title!

TWCA Students performed superb at the Namibia Junior Closed Chess Champs 2019

Chess can be a demanding and brutal game. It demands time and effort from its practitioners. It is not a 1 minute, 1 hour, 1 week, 1 month, 1 year affair. It is a life time commitment. For the new ones it can be overwhelming, but for the veterans it is a blast.

This past weekend was no exception when young scholars from u8-u20 boys and girls tackled each other to showcase their brilliance at the chess board. Mommies, Daddies, Aunties, Uncles, Teachers and Coaches all were there to bear witness and support the best of Namibian youngsters. This event also served as the qualifier for the AYCC 2019 which will be held in Namibia in December at the Safari Court Hotel in Windhoek. The journey for the youngsters to African greatness started this weekend.

TWCA fielded 14 players and 11 won medals. 6 gold and 5 silver medals:

For the Boys we had:

Boys - u8 Mikhail Mouton who ended 6th overall.

Boys - u12 Daniel Mouton who won a Silver medal.

Boys - u16 Aldo Horn who end 8th overall.

Boys - u18 FM Dante Beukes who won a Gold medal.

Boys - u20 NM Philip Mootseng who won a Gold medal. Philip was awarded the National Master title at this years event.

For the Girls we had:

Girls - u8 Hannah Mouton (only 5 years) who won a Gold medal.

Girls - u8 Isabella Mouton who won a Silver Medal

Girls - u8 Gabriella Mouton who ended 5th overall.

Girls - u14 Lure Horn who won a Silver medal.

Girls - u16 Keisha Van Wyk who won a Gold medal.

Girls - u18 Caro Horn who won a Gold medal.

Girls - u18 Patience Tsuses who won a Silver medal.

TWCA students crowned as Namibian Champions

20-24 March 2019, was the date Namibians could not miss. Or at least not the chess community. During this time 4 TWCA Students won 4 gold medals at the 2019 Namibia National Chess Championships.

16 year old, FM Dante Beukes won the Open Section clear first with 7.5/9 and was awarded with a gold medal and crowned Namibian Champion for a second time. WCM Nicola won the Women's Section clear first with 4/5 and was awarded with a gold medal and crowned Namibia's Women's Champion for a 4th time.

A former student and Coach of TWCA. Goodwill Khoa also won the B-Section with a score of 7.5/8 and was awarded with a gold medal too. WCM Jamie-Nicole won the Women's section of the B-Section and was awarded with a gold medal too. She scored and impressive 4.5/8 and placed 5th overall. This was no easy feat as she left many adult male players in the dust at only 10 years of age.

5 TWCA Students scooped 5 medals at the African Schools Individual Chess Championships 2018

5 Students showcased their expertise at the African Schools Individual Chess Championships in Limpopo, South Africa. We started the year with a bank and ended it with a bigger bang. Congratulations to our students:

Linekela Itembu - 2nd Place - Silver Girls u9 also awarded Women's Candidate Master title.

OYO BECAME THE YOUNGEST AFRICAN CHAMPION OF NAMIBIA

WCM Oyo in action in Kenya - Raw focus

10-19 August 2018 African Youth Chess Championship, Kisumu, Nairobi. 12 countries , 142 players participated in the event.  Namibia fielded 17 players ranging from U8-U18.

The competition was very tough for our juniors because the powerhouses of African chess (Algeria and SA) dominated the event. Majority of the Namibian players were new to the event hence they could not  yield the desired results but they gained a lot of experience in the process. They will return next year and show their strength. Namibia had one of the highest number of entrances into the event which shows that we are moving in the right direction. 

We secured 1 gold medal from girls U8, Ottilie Yorokee Hinda 'Oyo' who scored 8/9. Hinda  was the top seed in her age group for the entire tournament. Her performance rating was 1800 which was very good given her age. By winning the first  place, she got personal rights to participate in the world cadet chess championship that will be held in Weifang, China in 2019. Lewis Ncube, the President of the African Chess Federation announced at the closing ceremony that the African Chess Federation will pay all the costs of the winners to participate in China next year.

WCM Ottilie Hinda - u/8 African Champion

Hinda, is a Women Candidates Master (WCM), a title she obtained in Zambia, Lusaka in 2016. She is currently the youngest WCM in Africa. This is the first time that Namibia achieves a medal at the  African Youth Chess Championship. Hinda w will participate in the world cadet chess championship in Santiago, Spain from 3-16 November 2018 where she will meet the best of the world, amongst other, Russia, India, China, Mongolia, Uzbekistan but to mention a few countries that produces chess prodigies  in the world. 

Hinda feels very good about winning the award. She cannot wait to become a Women Fide Master (WFM).

 A special thanks to the President of the Namibian Chess Federation, Mr Israel Shilongo who goes the extra mile to encourage junior players to participate in international tournaments  to put Namibia on the map. He alloes encourages the juniors to participate in various open tournaments in Namibia as well as the Chess league. In these tournaments they play against strong players and up their game in the process.

TWCA STUDENTS REIGNED SUPREME, SCOOPING MOST MEDALS AT JUNIORS

The past weekend, 30 June and 1 July 2018, was once again, one of the most rewarding weekends for TWCA. We have won 11 Medals for Namibia Internationally. No other Namibian Chess Academy can match that.

We produced 5 master titles for Namibia. The 4 chess masters of TWCA delivered as usual. There were no equal to them.

TWCA STUDENTS PERFORMED SUPERBLY AT ZONE 3 SCHOOLS INDIVIDUALS CHESS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018

Saturday, 17 February 2018 the Zone 3 Schools Individual Chess Championships were held at Windhoek Gymnasium Private School.

TWCA Students and Coaches!!

15 Students from TWCA registered and 12 won medals, 5 Gold, 6 Silver and 1 Bronze. Our 3 Chess Masters, WCM Ottilie Hinda, WCM Jamie-Nicole Beukes and FM Dante Beukes showed real virtuoso with their perfect scores.

GILRS U9: We won the following medals Girls u9 Gold for WCM Ottilie Hinda and Silver for Violet Hewicke.
BOYS U9: In the Boys u9 section Shali Itembu came second and received the Silver medal. 

GIRLS U11: We also took gold in the Girls u11 for WCM Jamie-Nicole Beukes and Silver for Lilian Jansen.
BOYS U11: Boys u11 we had Daniel Mouton coming 2nd and was awarded with a Silver medal.

GIRLS U13: Here we took a Silver medal when Lure Horn came 2nd. 
BOYS U13: Uatjiri Hewicke came 2nd and took a bronze medal is this age group. 

GIRLS U15: Keisha Van Wyk came 1st in the girls u15 section and took the Gold medal.

GIRLS U17: We had Caro Horn in 1st place taking the Gold medal, followed by Patience Tsuses in 2nd place taking the silver medal. 
BOYS U17: Here FM Dante Beukes took no prisoners, showing real chess mastery with his cool and calm demeanor. The mark of a real virtuoso. He was awarded with a gold medal for his performance of 7/7.

Congratulations to all our students for their excellent performance. We would also like to give a great thank you to our Parents for supporting their kiddies.

TWCA STARTS 2018 WITH A BIG BOOM!!

The Deadly Trio - Dudley, Patience & Oyo

2018 seems to be the year we are going to make new waves. In fact our players went to South Africa and played in The South Africa Wild Card Junior Chess Championships and scoop a 1st prize, and Dudley Noreseb had a perfect score of 7/7 and took gold. Patience and Ottilie also fought hard and both took Bronze in their categories. These are small victories in RSA, but big victories for our Academy. It's just once again evidence that we have the skill set to deliver. We are tired to play and come back empty handed when we go across the border. Africa should know Namibia means business. We do not intend to win only we want to surpass them. Why not?

To crown this performance we had a record intake of 25 new students at TWCA alone this year. There is more good news coming. We are looking forward to the Schools Zonals which will take place this coming weekend 17 February 2018. We wish all our students great success.

BREAKING NEWS: FM Dante Beukes became the youngest Namibian Chess Champion

Dante Matthew Beukes, only 14 years of age won the 2017 Namibian National Chess Championships. The youngest Namibian Chess Champion for Namibian men ever. He is indeed a history maker in Namibian chess circles. He has a very humble and modest demeanor whether losing or winning a chess game and always willing to learn and improve.

Dante scored 7/9 games. He clinched the title with 2 draws, and six victories and the important victory over the former champion to make sure there is no doubt that he is the best player in Namibia. Dante had a rating performance of 2137 and played in the strongest field with a rating average of 1950. This meant that he performed higher than all his opponents rating average. 

What makes his achievement much more rewarding is the fact that the format has been changed to an all play all round robin event after an equally tough qualifiers event earlier this year where he came second. In 2nd place was former Namibian Champion Charles Eichab also with 7/9 but his direct encounter with Dante resulted in a loss which placed him second. In 3rd place we have Goodwill Khoa with 5.5/9.

The ladies did not disappoint either. WCM Lishen Mentile won the Namibian Women's chess championships for a second year in a row with a perfect score of 7/7. She was followed by Kamutuua Tjatindi with 5/7 taking the 2nd spot and getting the trophy and silver medal and Patience Tsuses with 4.5/7 grabbed 3rd spot with a bronze medal and trophy.

In the B-Section WCM Nicola Tjaronda came first with 5.5/9 to clinched the winning trophy and qualified for next years closed women chess championships. 

This event has set a precedent for future chess championships which can only be more competitive. The first 3 winners of this event, the winner of the B-Section and the highest rated active player has qualified for the Namibian National Closed Chess Championships in 2018. They do not have to play in the qualifiers for 2018. The event is also a FIDE rated event and the players who performed well will certainly gain much deserved rating points.
