TWCA Students Crowned as Chess Masters at 2016 African Schools Individual Chess Championships

TWCA is always synonymous with success. Our students are history makers, delivering on their training regime. They once again proof that hard work, dedication and correct training practices and methods pays huge dividends. Four of our students went to participate at the 2016 African Individual Schools Chess Championships in Zambia, Lusaka. The event was held at the Golden Peacock Hotel. They were Philip Mootseng, Dante Beukes, Jamie-Nicole Beukes and Ottilie Hinda.

We now have (FM) Fide Master Dante Beukes who won the 2016 African Schools Individual Chess Championships for Boys u/13. Dante won the gold medal and the Fide Master Title. It was indeed a phenomenal performance with a score of 8/9 games.

Another milestone was his younger sister Jamie-Nicole Beukes who also scored 8/9 and coming second at the 2016 African Schools Individual Chess Championships for Girls u/9. With this performance Jamie-Nicole got a silver medal and secured a chess master title and is now the second youngest (WCM)Women's Candidate Master of Namibia.

The 3rd title award was achieved by 6 year old Ottilie Hinda when she scooped the second place at the 2016 African Schools Individuals Chess Championships for girls u/7 and was awarded with a silver medal and the (WCM) Women's Candidate Master Title. Oyo is now the youngest chess master in Namibia and she achieved that even before she started grade 1.

TWCA students won 3 medals for Namibia and 3 chess master titles for Namibia. Congratulations to the students and their parents for a successful event. TWCA students have to date  won 5 medals for Namibia in the last two years, 1 Gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze. Similarly TWCA Students achieved 5 chess master titles. They are CM & FM Dante Beukes, WCM Nicola Tjaronda, WCM Jamie-Nicole Beukes and WCM Ottilie Hinda.

SOME FACTS AND STATISTICS:

There are different levels of chess masters in chess:
Level 1: Candidate Master & Women's Candidate Master  
Level 2: Fide Master & Women's Fide Master
Level 3: International Master & Women's International Master
Level 4: Grand Master & Women's Grand Master

As easy as TWCA students made it look like, its a challenge to obtain these chess master titles. Namibia has 11 Chess Masters, 2 Fide Masters, 3 Candidate Masters, and 6 Women's Candidate Masters. TWCA is also the only Chess Academy to ever produce medals (5) for Namibia on the International scene and to top that up the only Chess Academy to produce chess masters (5) from scholars.
